The quiet weeks before kidding season
There’s a particular kind of quiet that settles in on the farm before kidding season begins.
The days are still busy — chores, feeding, water buckets, and steamy-warm breaths in the barn — but everything slows just a little. We linger longer during evening checks. We listen more closely. We notice the small things: how one doe chooses a new sleeping spot, how another follows us just a bit more closely than usual.
Over the next five weeks, the farm will change in subtle ways as we prepare for new life to arrive.
Kidding season is one of the most meaningful times of year for us. It’s when patience matters most, when our role is less about doing and more about watching, supporting, and giving the animals the calm space they need to do what they’ve done for generations.
At Jollity Farm, preparation looks simple on the surface — clean bedding, adjusted feed, quiet evenings — but it’s built on care, experience, and a deep respect for the rhythm of the animals we tend. We don’t rush this season. We let it unfold.
We wanted to invite you along for these weeks leading up to the first arrivals. Not with constant updates or noise, but with small glimpses of what this season feels like for us — the waiting, the watching, and the joy that comes with it.
Next week, we’ll introduce you to a few of the expecting mamas and share a bit about who they are beyond their growing bellies.
Thank you for being here and for caring about where your food and farm goods come from. It means more than we can say.
With gratitude,
